Source Description
Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) New provincial grant for transportation, recreation, cultural and protective service projects. MSI in the 2009-2013 capital plan includes bridge financing.
Alberta fuel tax revenue-sharing (FUEL) Provincial fuel tax revenue-sharing for transportation-related projects.
Alberta Municipal Infrastructure Program (AMIP) Provincial grants for core municipal infrastructure such as transportation, emergency response, etc. The program expires in 2009.
Other Provincial Grants Provincial grants for one-time or specific projects that do not fit in the specific grant categories.


Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI)
On September 14, 2007, Mayor Bronconnier signed the Municipal Sustainability Initiative agreement with the Province, the most significant new funding arrangement in the history of Alberta.

The MSI agreement will bring some $3.3 billion in ‘no strings’ funding to Calgary from 2007 to 2017– the equivalent of the provincial property tax paid by Calgarians, now being returned to Calgarians to help pay for infrastructure projects that are long overdue.

The table below shows how the MSI is allocated over the life of the program.
